A group of Afghans in grave danger due to help their family members gave to the New Zealand Defence Force have won a case to restart their stalled applications for visas to come to New Zealand.

But the High Court decision issued on Monday stops short of granting them visas.

Instead Justice Francis Cooke said their applications for residence visas must be promptly considered and decided.
