Types of Membership

We have a variety of different membership categories covering Licenced Advisers and those providing business services to immigrants

Membership Categories

Full Principal Membership 

Full Principal Membership is for licensed advisers who have held an IAA licence for a minimum of 2 years as at the time of applying for membership to NZAMI. 

Full Membership is also for lawyers working in the immigration industry and who hold a current Practising Certificate.

Full Non-Principal Membership 

You can only apply for Full Non-Principal Membership if you are employed by a current Full Principal Member of NZAMI.  Full Non-Principal Membership is for licensed advisers who have held an IAA licence for a minimum of 2 years as at the time of applying for membership to NZAMI. 

Full Non-Principal Membership is also for lawyers working in the immigration industry and who hold a current Practising Certificate.

Primary Membership

Primary Membership is for licensed advisers who have held an IAA licence for less than 2 years as at the time of applying for membership to NZAMI. 

A Primary Member can become a Full Principal or Full Non-Principal Member after being a Primary Member for a period of 2 years provided that he or she has attended a minimum of ten NZAMI Continuing Professional Development events (to include attendance in person or purchasing a recording of a seminar, webinar, workshop, cell group meeting or annual conference in the preceding 2 years).

Student Membership

Student Membership is for individuals who have been accepted onto the Bay of Plenty Graduate Diploma in New Zealand Immigration Advice (Level 7) or any subsequent qualification mandated by the Immigration Advisers Authority as a prerequisite to becoming a Licensed Immigration Adviser.

Associate Membership 

Associate Membership is for people who have an interest in immigration, but who are not in the business of providing immigration advice.

Processing Times

Application processing takes approximately 3 - 4 business weeks.  Basic information from every application for membership goes before the entire membership and then the NZAMI Board Membership Committee for final approval.
